Perindopril with Indapamide Hemihydrate

A new formulation of Coversyl Plus has been PBS listed from 1 May 2007. Like earlier Coversyl formulation changes, the perindopril salt has changed from erbumine to arginine. As such, a change in dose from 4mg to 5mg is required to provide an equivalent amount of perindopril.

Medicare Australia have advised that the new formulation (2845R – Coversyl Plus 5mg/1.25mg) is bioequivalent with the old formulation (8449Q – Coversyl Plus 4/1.25).

Prescriptions or repeats for the old formulation can be substituted with the new formulation from 1 May 2007, regardless of the date of prescribing.

However, prescriptions for the new formulation are only valid PBS scripts if the date of prescribing is 1 May 2007 or later. Any scripts for the new formulation written before 1 May 2007 should be dispensed as private scripts as the item was not a benefit at the time of prescribing.
